Simple Systems brings together more than 50 years experience in higher education and software development to help institutions operate more efficiently through SaaS based technology. Our flagship product, Simple Syllabus, is designed to address a serious need for an automated approach to the creation of interactive syllabi for mobile, web, and print, and has quickly become the fastest growing syllabus management tool for higher education.

In addition to our syllabus management platform, we work with colleges and universities on a project basis across the entire system development lifecycle, to develop new configurable software that meets the constantly growing demands of higher education.

Academics Officer

James F. McManus, EdD

Chief Academics Officer

Dr. James F. McManus is a lifelong educator and entrepreneurial leader of industry.  As director at Nova Southeastern University Fischler School of Education he led initiatives with the Florida Department of Education and with K-12 school districts throughout the state in implementing various school choice programs, such as magnet and charter public schools, vouchers, tuition tax credits, homeschooling, and on-line education. In addition to his work as director at Nova Southeastern, his responsibilities included research, publishing, and teaching post-graduate courses in Nova’s Doctorate Program in Educational Leadership.

The Abraham S. Fischler School of Education is one of the largest schools of education at an accredited university in the United States. Nova Southeastern University, (NSU), is classified as a research university with “high research activity” by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Prior to his work with NSU, Dr. McManus served Hillsborough County, FL as a district administrator and middle school principal, as well as high school principal in Polk County, FL.  

During his career in business, Dr. McManus was Florida Regional Marketing Director for Pearson Publishing, the largest education company and largest book publisher in the world, where he was responsible for growing adoption of the companies educational content.

Culminating his corporate career, Dr. McManus was CEO of a national non-profit aviation corporation, and served as publisher and executive editor of a national magazine.   As part of his responsibilities, he traveled to Washington, DC to lobby the Department of the Interior regarding aviation interests, as well as frequent interactions with administrators of the Bureau of Land Management.  

Dr. McManus holds a Doctor’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a Master’s Degree in Administration from Youngstown State University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology and Earth Sciences from Youngstown State University.

Christopher Halbig

Chief Technology Officer / Product Manager

For over the past decade Chris Halbig has designed and engineered enterprise software applications for the higher education community.

Knowledgeable across the entire system development lifecycle, Chris was the Product Manager for Acalog, a market leading academic catalog management tool used by more than 500 colleges and universities in North America. While in this position Chris was responsible for a rewrite of the core application, increasing stability through development best practices, and bringing to market many new features that translated into rapid adoption and growth of the technology across higher education.

Chris has also successfully lead the development of custom point solutions for several large universities, for instance, the BeWell employee health program at Stanford University. In a consulting and project management role, schools have regularly depended upon Chris’ expertise to augment in-house development capabilities for projects that exceeded 1,000+ development hours.

In addition to higher education, Chris has been in technology leadership roles at multiple private sector focused companies and was responsible for the creation of multiple product lines at Responsive Solutions, Inc. a marketing automation technology provider, and publicly traded healthcare company Trxade (TRXD).

At Simple Syllabus, Chris oversees all things related to product. When not researching and talking to customers about their needs he can be found coding and working with others on the next new feature of the software.

 

Wes Syllabus

Wes Miller

Vice President, Sales & Marketing

Wes Miller helps colleges and universities evaluate software and identify new ways to streamline operational processes and improve outcomes across campus through learning technology.

Having a solid foundation in curriculum management, prior to joining Simple Syllabus, Wes most recently lead the sales and marketing function at Digital Architecture, Inc. for the Northeast. During his tenure he was directly responsible for the acquisition and implementation of curriculum management technology at more than 100 colleges and universities ranging in size from small vocational schools to large AAU institutions. Through his team’s contributions, the company experienced unprecedented growth, and was ultimately successfully acquired by private equity in 2016.

Before Digital Architecture Wes was Manager of Business Development at Responsive Solutions, Inc. a leading provider of marketing automation technology to both the private and public sectors. In this role, Wes helped organizations, including institutions of higher learning, communicate more effectively with prospective students and customers. While at Responsive Solutions Wes was responsible for signing the largest deal in company history, a Fortune100 manufacturing conglomorate.

Wes brings over a decade of broad-based technology and higher education experience to the Simple Syllabus team. He is a graduate of Florida State University where he received a distinction of Magna Cum Laude and degrees in Management Information Systems and Entrepreneurship.

Gina Monaghan

Vice President, Client Services

Gina Monaghan leads the implementation and support group at Simple Syllabus and is responsible for ensuring institutional success.

Deeply committed to helping our clients, Gina brings 12 years experience in developing and delivering software training to the higher education community. Through her work with more than 200 colleges and universities across the US, she brings the necessary broad-based experience to help schools solve even the most complicated issues. Her domain expertise includes working with stakeholders within the Provost Office, Registrar, and IT groups at community colleges, four-year privates, and four-year public institutions of varying sizes.

Gina is a graduate of Siena College holding a B.S. in Economics with a minor in Marketing.

Career Opportunities

Solutions Consultant

Simple Systems is seeking a highly energetic and self-motivated Solutions Consultant to join the  team. The Solutions Consultant would be a key member of the implementation & support group, responsible for planning & executing the setup and training activities for new customers as well as answering questions and solving issues for existing users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation and configuration of the Simple Syllabus software for new clients
  • Implement software while adhering to project management best practices
  • Interface and meet with clients and prospects as needed
  • Assist the sales team in presenting the software to key prospects during demonstrations
  • Be able to address technical and functional questions to help customers solve their challenges
  • Develop and deliver customer training, both onsite and remote
  • Master the capabilities of the system and advise customers on how to most efficiently use the solution
  • Collaborate effectively with other team members to define, prioritize, and implement selected enhancements
  • Participate in product documentation, testing, and enhancement of existing support services

Ideal Candidate:

  • Technical aptitude and critical problem solving skills
  • Knowledge and experience in the higher education sector
  • Communication skills are extremely important!
  • Be a self-starter, be able to work productively with minimal supervision
